About The Position

Triumvirate Environmental is seeking an Environmental Specialist to support its Lab & Onsite Support Services team at client locations in the Portsmouth, New Hampshire area. The role manages clients’ hazardous-waste programs and projects in accordance with state and federal regulations, while providing compliance support and customer service. The position reports to the Operations Manager and is onsite at client locations. It is safety-sensitive and involves frequent handling of hazardous chemicals and biological waste, as well as putting on and taking off personal protective equipment. The role includes preparing chemical and biological waste for shipment and disposal, creating required waste documents, conducting inspections and occasional EHS audits, and responding to spills. The employee will develop regulatory expertise and may participate in optional rotating on-call Emergency Response responsibilities. The role requires regular overtime and flexible hours Monday through Friday. Actual starting base pay may vary based on education, experience, skills, location, and budget; the listed pay range is $25–$26 USD.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree, equivalent experience in the hazardous-waste industry, or relevant military experience.
Ability to work both as part of a team and independently.
Strong verbal and written communication skills for professional interaction with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
Ability to analyze complex issues, develop solutions, and implement strategies to achieve positive outcomes.
Ability to build strong, positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
Ability to work overtime on a regular basis.
Willingness to work flexible hours Monday through Friday.
Ability to complete a 2- to 3-year professional advancement program in hazardous-waste management.
Ability to safely handle hazardous chemicals and biological waste and put on and take off personal protective equipment.
Ability to report to the Somerville, Massachusetts office within one hour during Emergency Response rotating shifts.
Valid U.S. driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Consent to motor vehicle record screening, criminal background check, pre-employment physical, and drug screening inclusive of THC; participation in random drug screening inclusive of THC after hiring.
Eligibility to work in the United States without future sponsorship.
Ability to lift 60 pounds on a regular basis.

Nice To Haves

Prior relevant industry experience.
Prior successful experience in a customer-service role.
Active HAZWOPER 24- or 40-hour certification.
Willingness to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Responsibilities

Develop an understanding of OSHA regulations and Triumvirate’s health and safety practices.
Prepare chemical and biological waste for shipment and disposal, create required federal and state waste documents, and manage related paperwork.
Safely handle hazardous-waste containers at client sites and load and unload waste from vehicles.
Conduct safety-equipment and hazardous-waste inspections.
Occasionally perform and document Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) audits for clients.
Provide outstanding client support and innovative solutions.
Develop expertise in state and federal regulations, including RCRA, DOT, and OSHA, to meet clients’ compliance needs.
Conduct spill-response measures, including assessing spills and performing cleanup efforts.
Participate in rotating on-call responsibilities as part of the Emergency Response team, if desired.
