About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of the Environmental Manager, this role is responsible for performing daily and weekly environmental inspections and various other tasks throughout the Company's everyday operations that affect environmental compliance. Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, and the essential duties and responsibilities may be different from those described. Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays is expected. The role requires compliance with company, Federal, State, and local safety, and ethics rules, regulations and policies while performing duties. This position will assist in providing support to Production to ensure that the Company complies with Federal, State, and local environmental permits, laws, and regulatory requirements. The role involves operating various equipment while performing assigned duties to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local environmental permits, laws, and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the Environmental Specialist will assist in maintaining inventory and storage of hazardous materials in accordance with Company policies, Federal, State, and local regulations, and assist in the investigation and solving of compliance problems, questions, or complaints. The role includes performing daily and weekly environmental inspections of the facility to ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and local environmental permits, laws, and regulatory requirements, and working with minimal supervision to carry out duties as instructed. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalence plus three or more years of environmental work experience desired.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of ship terminology and environmental regulations desired.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written, or diagram forms or plans.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure.
  • Ability to learn and retain knowledge.
  • Integrity, ethics, flexibility/ adaptability, initiative, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, safety-conscious, and multitasking.
  • Maintain the confidential integrity of details pertaining to Eastern Shipbuilding Group.
  • The employee must be physically and medically qualified to wear all required personal protective equipment, as prescribed under Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • The employee must be able to work above ground at heights of a minimum of 50 feet aloft and/or working from scaffolding and/or man-lifts while working with machinery; in confined spaces and withstanding extreme heat and cold in an outside climate or confined space.

Responsibilities
