About The Position

Huntsman is seeking an Environmental Specialist supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in Akron, Ohio. This position will report to the Regional EHS Manager. The Environmental Specialist will manage the facility hazardous and non-hazardous waste storage, transportation, and disposal processes and activities. They will also manage sample collection, analytical testing, and environmental programs such as LDAR, ensuring compliance with environmental permits and regulations. Additionally, the role involves ensuring environmental reports, plans, and requirements are complete, current, and properly implemented, providing technical support on environmental regulations, maintaining recordkeeping and reporting, and supporting incident management, training, and process safety efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, safety science, or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years’ work experience as an environmental specialist in an industrial setting, preferably chemical manufacturing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PPT).
  • Skills to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization.
  • Skilled to drive processes and projects to completion.
  • Capable to work with state and federal agencies.
  • Unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the facility hazardous and non-hazardous waste storage, transportation and disposal processes and activities, including completing waste profiles, required inspections, container labeling, manifesting, recordkeeping, and reporting.
  • Manage sample collection, analytical testing, and recordkeeping necessary to comply with facility Environmental permits.
  • Manage the facility Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program, including ensuring the necessary testing and recordkeeping is completed as required.
  • Ensure that environmental reports, plans, and other environmental requirements are complete, current, properly implemented in the operations and that reports are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Ensure permit applications and revisions are submitted in a timely manner and permits are kept up to date.
  • Provide technical/professional support regarding applicable environmental regulations and issues to site leadership.
  • Collect and record data to support the facility environmental systems to provide timely recordkeeping and reporting both internally and to external agencies.
  • Ensure that all environmental incidents are promptly and properly reported, investigated, and documented and that corrective action items are completed within appropriate time frames.
  • Conduct employee environmental training, track training completion and work with facility management to ensure that all training is completed as required by applicable regulations and company policies.
  • Assist the Site Safety Lead with the development, implementation, and testing of emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Support and participate in process safety efforts, including MOC, PHA, and PSSRs.
