This is professional work assisting the environmental manager in one of the five statewide multi-county geographic areas. The incumbent uses independent judgment and performs the more difficult or complicated inspections, assists the manager with inspection priorities and conducts training. Duties include conducting assigned on-site inspections of x-ray facilities and users of radioactive materials, with assignments including the more difficult or complicated types of x-ray facilities and/or radioactive material licensees where demonstrated competence will be required. The role also involves performing radiation emergency response duties, assessing hazards and taking appropriate actions to minimize radiation exposure to workers, the public, and the environment, as well as performing radiation-related investigations. The incumbent will serve as a mentor for new staff, maintain and enhance professional and technical skills through training and professional organizations, and act as a radiation technical advisor when answering concerns from radiation workers and the public. Additionally, the role involves serving on committees when requested to further radiation research issues, assisting the environmental manager by providing technical, scientific, and professional guidance, investigating special areas, and reporting unusual findings. The position may require working before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency, including working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties. The incumbent will be available on a 24-hour basis for response to radiation emergencies as a member of the State Radiation Emergency Response Team and may be subject to emergency calls from their residence for the protection of life or property. This position is in compliance with and monitors compliance with mandatory requirements in Sections 215.422 and 112.061, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 691-24.001, Florida Administrative Code. The incumbent is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Chapter 60L-36.003, Florida Administrative Code. The role requires a valid Florida Driver’s License and may involve using state or county vehicles for official business. Pcard responsibilities are included, and the incumbent must receive a minimum score of 70% on each written exam of required core training modules and attend all required core training courses. Federal certification in mammography inspections (MQSA) will be required if deemed necessary.
