The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is seeking an Environmental Specialist III to join our office in Portland. This position is a Senior Enforcement and Field Services Inspector for the Field Services Division in the Bureau of Land Resources. This position is responsible for supporting implementation of the Natural Resources Protection Act, Site Location of Development Law, Stormwater Management Law, and Erosion and Sedimentation Control Law in the Southern Maine region. The core responsibilities of the position include: Conduct site visits in response to environmental complaints. Make field determinations to confirm the presence of protected natural resources. Perform compliance inspections of licensed activities. Evaluate permit by rule applications. Pursue formal enforcement actions, including written letters of warnings, notices of violations, and consent agreements. A key function of the position is problem prevention and problem solving. The position may participate on the Board of Environmental Protection presentations, public meetings, and hearings.
