About The Position

This position is responsible for conducting field inspections of facilities regulated and licensed under various programs including Biomedical Waste, Body Piercing, Tattoos, Group Care, Mobile Home/RV Parks, Tanning, Migrant Labor Camps, Food Safety and Sanitation, and Adult Entertainment Facility Programs to ensure compliance with applicable codes and statutes. The role involves coordinating inspections, conducting pre-licensing site visits, performing plan reviews, initiating enforcement proceedings, and providing in-services as needed. Additionally, the position requires investigating complaints related to these programs and sanitary nuisances, documenting observations, and initiating enforcement procedures in conjunction with legal staff and supervisors. The role also includes maintaining daily activity reports, leave and attendance records, and other routine paperwork, as well as participating in training sessions to stay current with environmental health regulations.

Requirements

  • Training or experience in Environmental Health Programs.
  • Ability to use a PC and general office equipment.
  • Experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Experience in fieldwork.
  • Experience in public speaking.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Current Florida Department of Health employee
  • Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the Facilities Program with the Florida Department of Health
  • Have a current Certified Environmental Health Professional certificate in Food Protection.
  • Have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours or 40 quarter hours of class work in public health, environmental health, environmental science, or a physical or biological science.
  • Must be able to travel to various location in Brevard County up to 100+ miles a day in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work outside all day in all forms of weather.
  • Required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
  • Must be proficient in computers, laptops, Microsoft and other computer programs.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
  • This position requires daily in-office and/or field work.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting field inspections of facilities regulated and licensed under the Biomedical Waste, Body Piercing, Tattoos, Group Care, Mobile Home/RV Parks, Tanning, Migrant Labor Camps, Food Safety and Sanitation, and Adult Entertainment Facility Programs to ensure compliance with applicable code and/or statutes.
  • Coordinating the inspection of all assigned facilities within a designated area.
  • Conduct pre-licensing site visits, performs plan reviews, initiates enforcement proceedings, and provides in-services as needed.
  • Sets and performs re-inspections as needed to gain compliance.
  • Investigates complaints associated with all Facility Programs, including Biomedical Waste, Food Facilities, Group Care Facilities, Mobile Home/RV Parks, Tanning Facilities, Foodborne/Waterborne Illness Investigation Program, Body Piercing Facilities, Tattoo Establishments and Artists, and Migrant Labor Camps.
  • Investigates sanitary nuisance complaints per appropriate rule and statues and follows department protocol.
  • Documents observations, possible remedies as necessary, and issues appropriate notices.
  • Initiates enforcement procedures against sanitary nuisances as indicated in conjunction with department legal staff and immediate supervisor.
  • Complies with all department and division policies regarding submission of Daily Activity Reports.
  • Maintains Leave and Attendance Sheets, Authorizations to Incur Travel, Travel Vouchers and other routine paperwork.
  • Participate in training sessions, seminars and meetings as available to maintain timely and current knowledge of all environmental health regulations related to public health that are under the jurisdiction of the department.
