About The Position

Under the guidance of the IES Technical Manager (or designee), Environmental Specialist I will support the Environmental team at an active bulk fuels terminal, located in Kapolei, Oahu, Hawaii. This role offers a mix of field and office work, with a focus on helping the team maintain compliance with environmental regulations related to petroleum storage, handling, and distribution. Environmental Specialist I will gain hands-on experience with waste management, air emissions, spill prevention, stormwater programs, and environmental reporting within a fuel logistics operation. Occasional inter-island travel may be necessary to support neighbor island compliance activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Strong attention to detail, especially in recordkeeping
  • Good analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Positive attitude and team orientated spirit
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within 60 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Support environmental compliance programs including SPCC (Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure), stormwater, air emissions, remediation, and waste management.
  • Help track and document throughput, emissions, and waste data for regulatory reporting.
  • Participate in stormwater sampling, inspections, and permit compliance activities (e.g., SWPPP).
  • Maintain environmental records, logs, and compliance documentation.
  • Assist in preparing and sending reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Assist in internal audits as needed.
  • Performs a variety of special assignments as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
