About The Position

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is seeking an Environmental Specialist 3 to join the Division of Environmental Response and Revitalization (DERR) at their Groveport Field Office. This role involves coordinating and supporting field operations for DERR's on-the-ground investigations at state and U.S. EPA Site Assessment locations. The specialist will work closely with Superfund program and Site Investigation Field Unit (SIFU) personnel, district offices, and U.S. EPA on operational elements such as site access, work plan preparation, field sampling activities, lab coordination, and report preparation. The position also involves guiding technical staff, coordinating Level of Effort (LOE) activities like mobilization requests, work orders, and invoice approvals, assisting leadership in developing program proposals and recommendations, and collaborating to identify and resolve imminent threats and high-priority issues.

Requirements

  • 7 years of relevant programmatic experience OR a combination of education in an environmentally focused discipline or other job-related discipline and specific programmatic experience totaling 7 years OR completion of undergraduate core coursework in an environmentally-related discipline AND 3 years of relevant programmatic experience OR 2 years of relevant programmatic experience as an Environmental Supervisor.
  • Applicants must be able to provide their own transportation for field work.
  • New employees in OEPA's solid waste program (excluding those in the solid waste planning unit) must obtain a sanitarian-in-training certificate during their probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Organizing site access, reconnaissance, and work plan development.
  • Overseeing field sampling, lab coordination, and data entry.
  • Preparing reports, graphics, and results correspondence.
  • Managing project closeouts, recommendations, and briefings.
  • Coordinating with local governments, health officials, and property owners.
  • Contributing to program proposals and resolutions for high priority issues.
  • Developing and delivering training on sampling procedures and program guidance.
