About The Position

This is a dual-class role, primarily serving as an Environmental Services Worker II, with intermittent duties as a Solid Waste Technician. The Environmental Services Worker II performs advanced level maintenance and customer service tasks at a county solid waste facility. Duties include monitoring operations of independent solid waste contractors, leading and coordinating the work of assigned staff, screening solid waste, collecting tipping fees, maintaining site operating records, directing the public, and ensuring site operational status. The Solid Waste Technician is responsible for service operations, routine maintenance, and inspection functions at assigned County solid waste management facilities. Duties include maintaining daily staffing, directing and coordinating site operations, performing routine site maintenance and repair, monitoring contractor activities, and performing facility and waste materials inspections. The work is performed under the direction of supervisory staff in accordance with established solid waste disposal policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Two years of full-time paid experience as a licensed solid waste facility attendant; OR three years of full-time paid experience in maintenance, customer service, or a related field; OR successful completion of at least 28 credits from an accredited college or university in environmental science, chemistry, or related coursework; OR equivalent training and experience
  • Possession of a standard passenger vehicle driver's license
  • Must be continuously authorized to work in the United States, for St. Louis County, on a full-time basis
  • Must successfully obtain MPCA Type III Waste Disposal Certification within the probationary period
  • Must complete OSHA Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) training within the probationary period
  • May be required to obtain a Class "B" Commercial Driver's License with a Hazardous Materials Endorsement within six months of appointment
  • May be required to obtain an MPCA Type II Certification if necessitated by position assignments before being certified as a permanent employee
