About The Position

The Manager of Environmental Services will assist Director to plan, organize, execute, and control the overall operation of the Environmental Services Department and its personnel. To maintain the highest possible aseptic standards and good public relations by creating a clean, attractive, and safe environment. Ensures the compliance of Medical Waste Management Act.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent
  • Use effective, appropriate and diplomatic oral written communication skills.
  • Organization/time management skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, planning and evaluation skills.
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree in Business Management or related field
  • 2-3 years experience in operations at the managerial or supervisory level.
  • Experience as an Environmental Services manager.
  • Knowledge of Kronos timekeeping system.
  • IEHA certification OR equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains established orderliness, cleaning, and safety standards set by the department.
  • Coordinates trash/waste disposal, generalized cleaning, and linen provision efforts of the department.
  • Knows and complies with Infection Control Procedures/ Standards.
  • Demonstrates behavior that supports the USC University Hospital mission.
  • Possesses excellent communication proficiencies.
  • Is organized and detail oriented.
  • Has exceptional follow-through and is able to meet deadlines.
  • Recommends changes to the established safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintains and modifies established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety and environmental standards.
  • Knows and complies with Title 22 and other state, federal, and JCAHO regulations that pertain to the Environmental Services Department.
  • Evaluates comparability of workloads to procedural compliance.
  • Develops and maintains risk management procedures.
  • Ensures the completion of personnel assignments.
  • Performs work competency & performance evaluations and makes recommendations for corrective action or improvement.
  • Provides direction and support for EVS staff and workers.
  • Develops and manages staff scheduling procedures, call-dispatching procedures and their perspective database system.
  • Ensures that necessary supply levels are maintained and makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Oversees proper distribution of supplies and chemicals and ensures that cleaning solutions are properly diluted.
  • Develops and manages equipment preventative maintenance.
  • Develops and manages employee retention programs.
  • Participates in hospital weekly rounds and auditing procedures.
  • Monitors and helps control department budget.
  • Assists Director to develop and enforce Quality Improvement, Quality Assurance, and Quality Control (QI/QA/QC) measures including routine area inspections and black light tests.
  • Maintains personnel, payroll, training, and inventory records.
  • Recommends new procedures, products, and equipment for safety functions and better efficiency, cost, and quality.
  • Informs Employee health of EVS staff of injuries and fills out proper documentation.
  • Informs department Director of EVS staff problems, shift changes, or any unusual activities and makes recommendations.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  • Attends meeting as required, and participates on committees as directed.
  • Disseminates required information to Administration, Director, and staff.
  • Wears conservative business attire at most times.
  • With assistance of Department Director coordinates and integrates department services on intradepartmental, interdepartmental, and hospital-wide levels.
  • Plans for provision of services through provision of appropriate levels of qualified, competent staff. Policies and procedures are in place to support scope of practice.
  • Establishes and maintains performance improvement and quality control activities which support the department and the hospital.
  • Provides for orientation, training, and continuing education of staff.
  • Monitor space/resource requirements and utilization of outside resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • The hourly rate range for this position is $21.84 - $36.77.
