About The Position

Under the close supervision of a supervisory official, as a trainee and productive worker, in an Environmental Services program, in a state department, institution, or agency, learns to conduct routine surveys, studies, inspections, and/or investigations relating to the improvement and/or monitoring of environmental conditions, and/or the enforcement of environmental laws/regulations. This position will collect and analyze water quality samples for PFAS trackdown studies and perform assessments of freshwater, which include physical/chemical water quality; flow measurements, continuous monitoring, source trackdowns, and PFAS sampling. The role also involves utilizing electronic and computerized equipment for measuring water quality and accurately locating sampling sites. Source tracking duties include identification of impacted water supply wells and surface/drinking water sources, identification of Water Quality Impairments, survey of watershed areas, utilizing GIS, maintaining databases, and coordinating sampling and lab analyses. Additional duties include preparing accurate data reports containing findings and conclusions, operating state vehicles (truck/boat), and attending internal and external meetings.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in one of the Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences/Studies, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, or in Environmental Planning, Environmental Policy, or Physical Geography; or in Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Bio-resource Engineering
  • Possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position
