The environmental services technician is responsible for executing the daily duties required to establish and maintain a safe, hygienic, and aesthetically pleasing environment conducive to healing by maintaining the physical environment of the hospital at the highest level of cleanliness and sanitation. An environmental services technician, in accordance with organizational standards of quality, is an essential contributor to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention and the patient experience.

Requirements

  • Health care support services and/or environmental services, hospitality, or related field
  • Effective use of computers and/or mobile devices for daily job performance activities.
  • Ability to read/write English preferred
  • High School Diploma, GED or work history equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Industrial floor care experience preferred.
  • Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) and/or Certified Surgical Cleaning Technician (CSCT) desired/preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for daily occupied cleans, discharge cleans, terminal cleans, Surgery & Central Sterile disinfection cleans.
  • Disinfection of patient care areas, equipment as assigned and other common areas of assignment.
  • Performs duties while demonstrating working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements, proper and safe chemical selection and use, equipment handling, linen distribution, and labor-saving products for all items within the healthcare environment for which tasked with servicing.
  • Follows all infection prevention practices (i.e. proper cleaning and disinfection protocols and process, hand hygiene, standard & isolation precautions, as well as proper donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Actively participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics.
  • Perform specialty tasks according to facility needs including tasks such as conference room set up/dismantle, cleaning of stairwells and elevators, and hanging of cubicle curtains.
  • Maintains cleaning cart(s), supplies and equipment evidenced by cleaning, disinfecting, and properly stocking environmental services cart in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Removes waste and transports to the appropriate disposal area while identifying proper waste stream handling (i.e. regulated medical, recycling, e-waste, universal, PHI, solid, and hazardous wastes).
  • Completes designated daily, weekly, and monthly project cleaning tasks and is alert to cleaning needs of the area.
  • Provides spot cleaning and full carpet extraction using appropriate procedures, equipment, and chemicals.
  • Maintain various hard floor surfaces, floor finishing and other detail projects
