About The Position

We are seeking dedicated Environmental Services Technicians to join our team and help maintain a clean, safe, and healing environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This role is responsible for providing environmental cleaning services throughout the hospital, including highly specialized patient care areas. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to infection prevention, patient satisfaction, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Ability to safely lift, push, pull, and move equipment and supplies as required.
  • Knowledge of infection control techniques and proper hand hygiene practices.
  • Proficiency in handling biohazards and cleaning bloodborne pathogen/body fluid spills.
  • Understanding of chemical safety and hazardous material handling.
  • Knowledge of Life Safety Codes and emergency response procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Commitment to providing a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients and caregivers.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous healthcare housekeeping or environmental services experience.
  • Experience cleaning specialty clinical areas such as NICU, OR, ED, Labor & Delivery, or Critical Care.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and healthcare cleaning standards.
  • Familiarity with biohazard handling procedures and hazardous drug spill response (USP 800).

Responsibilities

  • Follow proper infection prevention and control practices, including hand hygiene and isolation cleaning protocols.
  • Safely handle biohazardous materials, including sharps and body fluid spills.
  • Perform chemical and medication spill cleanup, including USP 800 hazardous drug spill procedures.
  • May perform light floor care duties, including buffing hard surface floors and spot-cleaning carpets.
  • Demonstrate understanding and compliance with Life Safety Codes and emergency procedures.
  • Utilize AIDET communication principles to provide exceptional customer service when interacting with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies according to department standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, regulatory, and organizational policies.
  • Perform proper cleaning techniques and procedures when cleaning clinics, offices, and other common areas within the Carle organization.
  • Demonstrates procedural knowledge of safe chemical handling and use, and disposal of biohazard materials.
  • Performs all housekeeping duties with the special needs of our patients and staff in mind.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of infection prevention techniques and proper hand hygiene.
  • Successfully completes the Cert 1 training course.
