About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient rooms and assigned areas for Sanford Health patients, visitors, and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. Tasks include emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using various equipment. The role requires demonstrating knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment, and applying them to provide a clean and sterile environment. Responsibilities may include cleaning patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas to meet health standards. The technician must wear proper protective equipment, keep storage and equipment stocked, clean, and tidy, and may use pagers and other technology. Assistance in laundry areas and potential use of Sanford technology applications may also be required.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
Ability to use computer.
Prior cleaning experience is helpful.
Knowledge of materials, equipment, cleaning methods and cleaning chemicals is helpful.
Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills are required.
Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

Maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient rooms and assigned areas.
Following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines.
Emptying waste baskets.
Sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines.
Cleaning patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
Wearing proper protective equipment.
Keeping storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.
Using pagers and other technology appropriately when needed.
Assisting in laundry areas as appropriate.
Using Sanford technology applications, depending on location and availability.
