About The Position

The Environmental Services Specialist is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment in accordance with organizational standards of quality and is an essential contributor to infection prevention, patient experience and the overall health and safety of patients, staff and visitors within our healthcare facilities.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a cleaning or environmental services role, particularly in a healthcare setting, is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety practices.
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and use cleaning chemicals safely.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Can distinguish the different between levels of disinfection and perform low and intermediate level disinfection.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine cleaning of clinic areas, including patient rooms, waiting areas, restrooms, and administrative offices.
  • Handle waste disposal in compliance with health and safety regulations, including hazardous and biohazardous materials.
  • Performs duties while demonstrating working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements set forth by the CDC, Association for Health Care Environment (AHE) and other regulatory bodies.
  • Responsible for cleaning and disinfection of equipment and areas of assignment according to procedures, policies and manufacture recommendations.
  • Follows all environmental and infection prevention practices (i.e. Proper cleaning and disinfection protocols and process, hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions, as well a proper use of Personal Protective Equipment when applicable.
  • Performs basic maintenance duties if needed. For example: changing lightbulbs and filters, fire extinguisher inspection, and other basic assigned maintenance tasks.
  • Follow infection control procedures and protocols to prevent the spread of diseases.
  • Adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and clinic policies.
  • Report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to the Facilities Director or Site Coordinator.
  • Adheres to all organizational safety, risk management and infection control standards and promotes a culture of safety.
  • Recognizes and adheres to patient privacy requirements (HIPPA).
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate and properly maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the environment.
  • Replenish cleaning supplies and report inventory needs to the Purchasing Inventory Coordinator (or Facilities Director)
  • Properly handle and store cleaning chemicals and ensure they are used safely.
  • Interact professionally with patients, visitors, and staff, maintaining a positive and courteous demeanor.
  • Address any concerns or requests related to cleanliness and hygiene promptly and effectively.
  • Assist in setting up and breaking down rooms for special events or procedures as needed.
  • Participate in training sessions and meetings related to environmental services and safety.
  • Assist in onboarding new Environmental Service Technicians as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including special projects identified by the executive team and/or the Facilities Director.
