About The Position

The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for the thorough cleaning of assigned areas, including furniture, tile, fixtures, windows, sinks, tubs, toilets, mirrors, and showers. This role involves performing high and low dusting, mopping floors, cleaning door frames and ceiling vents, and vacuuming carpets. The technician must adhere to all organizational policies, infection prevention standards, and observe isolation procedures. They are responsible for maintaining EVS closets, carts, and equipment, reporting safety hazards, and managing supply levels. This position also includes special project assignments such as coordinating with affected departments for upcoming projects like construction, wall cleaning, or window washing, and posting informational signs. The role requires moving furniture, supplies, and equipment according to safety and lifting procedures, and properly mixing and storing chemicals with correct dilution ratios. Use of personal protective equipment, including safety goggles, is mandatory. The technician will use wet floor signs to block off work areas, make beds according to specific needs, and utilize a bed tracking phone/pager to update patient room status in EPIC. Responding to supervisor calls within 5 minutes and reporting any phone/pager issues are also key responsibilities. The role ensures dismissal rooms are ready for the next patient and may use a Xenex UV Light robot for specified rooms. Proper handling, transport, and disposal of various waste types, including hazardous, infectious, sharps, confidential, recycling, and regular trash, are essential. Completion of DOT Certification for packaging and transporting regulated medical waste is required. The position requires adherence to all applicable regulations and standards.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous cleaning experience helpful.
  • Knowledgeable on correct chemicals used for different pathogens.
  • Knowledgeable on correct chemicals used for different pathogens.
  • Knowledgeable and can identify various bed types.
  • Complete DOT Certification in order to package and transport regulated medical waste.

Responsibilities

  • Thorough cleaning of assigned areas including furniture, tile, fixtures, windows, sinks, tubs, toilets, mirrors, showers, etc.
  • Perform high and low dusting of TV's, lights, walls, mop floors, elevators and stairs, clean door frames, ceiling vents, and vacuum carpet, etc.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Observe all isolation procedures and Infect Prevention Standards.
  • Maintain EVS closet, EVS cart, and all equipment in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Report any safety hazards or equipment in need of repair to supervisor and/or Facilities.
  • Maintain correct amount of supplies.
  • Replenish paper, soap supplies, and hand sanitizer.
  • Hang cubicles/drapes according to department policy.
  • Complete special project assignments, including coordinating specifics such as contacting affected departments to advise of upcoming project (i.e. construction projects, wall cleaning, drapes, changing cubicles, window washing, etc.), and post informational signs.
  • Move furniture, supplies and equipment as requested adhering to departmental safety and lifting procedures.
  • Seek assistance when in doubt.
  • Properly mix and store chemicals to achieve correct dilution ratio.
  • Use proper personal protective equipment including safety goggles when needed.
  • Read directions carefully and ask supervisor when in doubt.
  • Use wet floor signs, etc. to block off work area.
  • Make beds in accordance with specific area needs.
  • Utilize bed tracking phone/pager, place bed in EPIC and remove when bed has been completed.
  • Respond to phone/pager call from supervisor within 5 minutes.
  • Report phone/pager problems to supervisor.
  • Log out of EPIC.
  • Ensure dismissal rooms are ready for the next patient.
  • Use Xenex UV Light robot for specified rooms where available.
  • Return soiled and clean unused mops to department and place in proper containers/areas.
  • Adhere to all applicable regulations and standards.
  • Adhere to proper handling, transport and disposal of all waste types, including but not limited to: hazardous, infectious, sharps, confidential, recycling, regular trash, universal.
  • Complete DOT Certification in order to package and transport regulated medical waste.
  • Ask supervisor or lead when in doubt.
