About The Position

Join Compost Crew, the largest organics recycling company in the DC/Maryland/Virginia region, for a high-impact paid internship focused on organics recycling, sustainability, and environmental stewardship. No prior composting experience is required. This internship is ideal for students, career changers, and individuals passionate about the environment who are eager to learn, contribute, and grow. You will gain valuable field experience, receive education and training from industry professionals, develop practical and technical skills, and work in a respectful and supportive team environment. The role involves training in the use of specialized equipment and tools, ensuring a safe work environment, and offers opportunities to obtain a Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Certificate for driving commercial vehicles and become a MD State Certified Composter Operator. There is also potential for internship extension and continued employment. The pay is $20/hr with mileage reimbursement.

Responsibilities

  • Process organic materials and compost feedstocks at our on farm compost facilities
  • Support compost production
  • Remove contamination from incoming materials
  • Assist with equipment inspections and maintenance
  • Assist in data collection and field observation
  • Follow safety and environmental procedures
  • Clean and organize site
