About The Position

Performs routine housekeeping and custodial work involving a variety of cleaning and maintenance duties within a university environment. Work areas may include, but are not limited to, residence halls, classrooms, gymnasiums, offices, common areas, and other campus facilities. Work must be performed in accordance with established standards of cleanliness, safety, and quality and is reviewed for thoroughness, neatness, and overall effectiveness.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and demonstrate effective time-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to push/pull housekeeping carts, equipment, and supplies as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to cleaning chemicals and cleaning-related odors.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous housekeeping, custodial, or janitorial experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine housekeeping duties to maintain the cleanliness, appearance, and upkeep of assigned facilities on a scheduled and regular basis.
  • Duties may include, but are not limited to, cleaning and sanitizing offices, classrooms, residence halls, common areas, and restrooms; vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, mopping, emptying trash receptacles, washing windows, cleaning bathrooms, waxing floors, shampooing carpets, cleaning stairwells, and restocking restroom supplies.
  • Conducts visual inspections of mechanical and utility equipment and reports maintenance, safety, or repair concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assists with residence hall and guest housing turnovers in preparation for summer groups and special events, including making beds, distributing linens, and stocking rooms with required supplies.
  • Operates housekeeping equipment and utilizes cleaning chemicals in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
