About The Position

The EVS Tech reports to the Environmental Services Manager and is responsible for the daily cleaning and disinfection of patient and non-patient areas to support a safe, sanitary healing environment. This position has frequent interaction with staff, visitors, and patients and is expected to demonstrate courteous, service-oriented communication.

  • Previous housekeeping experience in a hospital setting, preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Must follow all required safety and infection prevention practices.

Responsibilities

  • Follow departmental policies and manufacturer instructions for the safe handling, dilution, and use of cleaning/disinfecting chemicals and equipment.
  • Stock and maintain the EVS supply cart/closet (e.g., liners, microfiber, paper products, disinfectants) at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Clean and disinfect patient rooms, offices, restrooms, corridors, and other assigned areas according to established schedules and standards.
  • Perform discharge/terminal cleaning and enhanced cleaning for isolation rooms as assigned, following infection prevention precautions.
  • Collect, remove, and properly dispose of trash, linen, and waste, including regulated medical waste, in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Replenish disposable items such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper, gloves, and sanitizer dispensers as assigned.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment and furniture (e.g., beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, tables) per unit workflow and EVS procedures.
  • Respond promptly to calls for service including spills, bodily fluid cleanups, and room/equipment turnarounds; place appropriate wet-floor signage and follow safety protocols.
  • Dust and spot-clean high and low surfaces, vents, ledges, and other touchpoints; focus on high-touch areas to reduce infection risk.
  • Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow Standard/Transmission-Based Precautions as applicable.
  • Use assigned tracking system and approved electronic devices to receive, document, and close tasks; communicate status updates as needed.
  • Provide positive customer service and maintain patient privacy and confidentiality while interacting with patients, visitors, and staff.
