About The Position

Provide a safe, clean and comfortable environment for patients in accordance with the healthcare laws and regulations of the State of Nebraska, and the directives, policies, and budgets established by KCHS. This role involves performing daily cleaning tasks of the facility including the hospital, clinic, public patient areas, and office areas. The technician must understand daily cleaning tasks, know where all environmental services supplies are located and how to correctly use them, and understand and carry out the correct use of all chemicals. Responsibilities include ensuring all areas of the facility are dust-free, clean, and sanitized, keeping floors clean and in good condition, stocking dispensers, and maintaining clean, stocked, and organized utility and store rooms. The role also requires completing all work lists and paperwork accurately and in a timely manner, submitting work orders for repairs, and adhering to facility, state, and federal regulations. The position emphasizes working cooperatively with co-workers and staff, being punctual, accepting constructive criticism, and demonstrating kindness, courteousness, and sensitivity to patients, families, physicians, co-workers, and visitors. Proper use and cleaning of housekeeping equipment, handling of bio-hazardous waste, and adherence to infection control, risk management, and safety policies are also key aspects of the role. Customer service is paramount, requiring a friendly and helpful demeanor towards all individuals.

Must be capable of communicating clearly (reading, writing and speaking) in the English Language.
Must be proficient in the operation of a personal computer with Microsoft Office and the Internet.
Must be capable of reading and comprehending complex healthcare laws and regulations.
Will have access to the facility while scheduled.
Will have access to confidential information abiding by the organization’s privacy policies and regulations concerning this information.

Responsibilities

Perform daily cleaning tasks of the facility including the hospital, clinic, public patient areas, and office areas.
Understand daily cleaning tasks, know where all environmental services supplies are located and how to correctly use them.
Understand and carry out correct use of all chemicals.
Insure all areas of the facility are dust free, clean and sanitized.
Keep all floors clean and in good conditions, may include; sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, vacuuming and shampooing.
Keep all soap and paper towel dispensers clean, sanitized and stocked.
Keep all utility and store rooms clean, stocked and organized.
Make sure all carts are cleaned and supplies are stocked and ready for the next day before leaving at the end of the day.
Complete all work lists daily, weekly, and monthly.
Follow proper procedure while completing all work assignments and paperwork.
Job and corresponding paperwork must be completed accurately and in a timely manner.
Insure all paperwork is turned in when it is due.
Understand when and how to correctly submit work orders for any repairs needed.
Works in harmony with assigned co-workers and other department staff.
Is punctual in attendance.
Adjusts personal schedule to work as scheduled.
Provides proper notification for absence as per hospital policy.
Accepts and responds to constructive criticism, assigned duties and suggestions in a cooperative manner.

Understand how to correctly use all housekeeping equipment, including vacuums, shampooers, microfiber mopping system, nano edge, walk behind floor scrubber, buffers, zamboni, etc.
Follow manufacturer recommendations and facility procedure when using all equipment.
Clean all equipment as scheduled along with as needed to insure it is clean and in good working order.
Report any issues with equipment to the Director of Environmental Services as soon as possible.
Sanitize all equipment used for isolation or spills immediately after use.
Understand how to properly handle bio-hazardous waste.
Correctly remove and handle all biohazard materials.
Follow all regulations, policies, and procedures.
Know how to find the department policies and procedures or ask a supervisor when you have questions.
Help insure policies are up to date, correct and followed.
Do not work over 40 hours without prior approval of the department director.
Appears well groomed and observes established dress guidelines, visibly wearing the name identification badge.
Displays self-respect and pride in KCHS.
Assists all patients, family members/significant others, physicians, visitors and employees in a friendly manner.
Introduces self and uses caring, thoughtful words either in person or on the telephone.
Demonstrates ethical and appropriate behavior for a healthcare environment to include, but not limited to, dignity, patient’s rights and privacy, and the maintenance of confidentiality of patient information.

Notifies the Infection Control Nurse of real or potential exposures.
Demonstrates adherence to risk management and safety policies and codes as evidenced by in-service attendance records and employee practices.
Maintains a clean and safe environment for patient and co-workers.
Follows all general safety rules.
Notified the Safety Director and/or Risk Manager of incidents involving injury or having the potential for injury.
Submits incident reports according to hospital policy.
