About The Position

The Environmental Services Tech I is responsible for cleaning and disinfecting assigned areas within Advocate Christ Medical Center and/or off-site facilities. This includes washing walls, doors, ceilings, patient televisions, windows, furniture, tile, fixtures, appliances, floors, and equipment using appropriate cleaning solutions and following specific schedules. The role also involves operating various equipment, using chemicals according to policy, and maintaining an orderly, clean, and safe work environment. A key aspect of the position is demonstrating excellent customer satisfaction by utilizing AIDET, constructively resolving conflicts, maintaining a positive attitude, and presenting the department professionally. Responsibilities also include following procedures for patient discharges, preparing cleaning solutions, sweeping, mopping, shampooing furniture and carpets, moving equipment, and collecting/distributing linens and waste. The role requires adherence to safety regulations, Standard (Universal) Precautions, and Infection Control Policies. Additionally, the position involves professional growth through attending meetings and inservices, completing required training, and maintaining punctuality and proper attendance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience
  • Basic computer skills preferred
  • Able to operate small electrical equipment e.g., vacuum cleaners
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English as related to the performance of essential job activities (including reading and comprehending chemical labels and other safety materials)
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
  • For lifts over 35 pounds, lifting equipment is expected to be used or lift with at least one other associate when available.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and disinfect assigned areas, including patient rooms, offices, restrooms, elevators, and stairwells.
  • Wash walls, doors, ceilings, patient televisions, windows, furniture, tile, fixtures, appliances, floors, and equipment.
  • Operate various cleaning equipment following department procedures.
  • Use chemicals and solutions according to department policy and safety regulations.
  • Maintain work areas in an orderly, clean, and safe condition.
  • Utilize AIDET with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrate ability to identify and resolve interpersonal conflicts constructively.
  • Display a positive and supportive attitude towards patients, families, and personnel.
  • Maintain courteous and pleasant attitude to patients, families, and other contacts.
  • Maintain confidential patient and departmental information.
  • Utilize appropriate chain of command for resolving issues.
  • Thoroughly wash and sanitize beds and make beds with clean linen after patient discharges.
  • Thoroughly clean and sanitize entire room and washroom after patient discharges.
  • Use appropriate germicide in disinfecting rooms.
  • Select and transport appropriate cleaning materials and supplies to work areas.
  • Replenish supplies such as paper towels, toilet tissues, and soap.
  • Collect waste and sanitize garbage cans.
  • Observe and follow Standard (Universal) Precautions, Infection Control Policies, and departmental policies.
  • Clean or sanitize after emergency spills as requested.
  • Place full, tied bags of soiled linen in linen chutes.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and attractive environment for patients, visitors, and associates.
  • Wash hands thoroughly throughout the day and adhere to the Hospital handwash policy.
  • Prepare detergents, germicidal solutions, and other cleaning/disinfecting solutions according to established formulas.
  • Sweep, dust mop, and wet mop floor areas.
  • Spot clean carpets using appropriate solutions.
  • Shampoo furniture, carpets, and rugs using appropriate equipment and supplies.
  • Identify types of soiling and spotting and utilize proper solutions.
  • Ensure all chemicals and solutions are in properly labeled containers.
  • Adhere to safety regulations.
  • Move equipment and furniture for cleaning, rearrangement, and/or relocation.
  • Arrange furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion after cleaning.
  • Arrange furniture for meetings, workshops, and community affairs according to specifications.
  • Clean equipment and notify supervisor of equipment needing repair.
  • Appropriately report safety hazards.
  • Return unused supplies to closets, clean carts and equipment, and ensure all items are replaced in an orderly manner.
  • Collect and/or distribute soiled and/or clean linens.
  • Collect hazardous and medical waste according to procedures.
  • Sanitize all garbage/waste disposal containers.
  • Separate regular and recycle trash according to procedure.
  • Attend all mandatory departmental and hospital meetings and inservices.
  • Complete annual CBT's required.
  • Follow written department goals and objectives.
  • Seek education and learning experiences in areas of identified growth needs.
  • Maintain proper attendance and punctuality requirements.
  • Plan for special days off in advance and submit written requests.
  • Request PTO time in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Provide adequate notice for absences and call in according to departmental policy.
