Responsibilities

  • Selects, trains/orients, and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Develops departmental goals and objectives, and establishes and implements policies and procedures for department operation.
  • Develops and recommends department operating budget and ensures that department operates within budget.
  • Directs the preparation and maintenance of department quality reports.
  • Prepares periodic reports for administration as requested.
  • Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates and supervises functions and activities of the Environmental Services Department to maintain the hospital environment in a sanitary, attractive, and orderly condition and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Schedules and supervises housekeeping functions and activities so as not to interrupt or interfere with patient care activities.
  • Investigates and evaluates new housekeeping supplies and equipment and makes recommendations to administration.
  • Inspects and evaluates the hospital's physical condition. Makes recommendations concerning painting, repairs, furnishings and furniture, relocation of equipment, and allocation of space to improve sanitation, appearances, and efficiency.
  • Instructs personnel in use of new equipment, cleaning techniques/methods, and cleaning agents.
  • Maintains inventory of cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment and oversees their replacement.
  • Inspects housekeeping equipment for wear, tear, and replacement and prepares requisitions for maintenance or replacement.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Participates in hospital/medical staff committee meetings as required.
  • Attends and serves on professional/civic service organizations as hospital representative.
