About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors, and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. Tasks include emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using various equipment. The role may involve cleaning various locations such as patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas to meet health standards. The technician will wear proper protective equipment, keep storage areas stocked and tidy, and use pagers and other technology appropriately. Assistance in laundry areas may also be required. Depending on the location, access to and use of technology applications may be available.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred
  • Ability to use computer
  • Prior cleaning experience is helpful
  • Knowledge of materials, equipment, cleaning methods and cleaning chemicals is helpful
  • Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills are required
  • Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment is preferred
  • Considerable use of arms and legs and moving of whole body; such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50lbs
  • Ability to push/pull up variable weight limits on flat surfaces or up and down ramps
  • Individual will be on their feet for the majority of their shift
  • May be exposed to certain levels of noise with the equipment in operation

Responsibilities

  • Emptying waste baskets
  • Sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors
  • Using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines
  • Demonstrate knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools and techniques in a healthcare environment
  • Provide a clean and sterile environment for patients/residents and facility staff
  • Clean patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas
  • Wear the proper protective equipment following the appropriate guidelines
  • Keep storage, equipment and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy
  • Use pagers and other technology appropriately when needed
  • Assist in the laundry areas as appropriate
  • Use of technology applications may be available depending on location and availability of programs
