About The Position

The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors, and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. Tasks include emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using various equipment. The role requires demonstrating knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment to provide a clean and sterile environment. Responsibilities may include cleaning patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas to meet health standards. The technician must wear proper protective equipment, keep storage areas stocked and tidy, and use pagers and other technology appropriately. Assistance in laundry areas may also be required. Depending on location and program availability, technology applications may be used. The role involves significant physical activity, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials, with the ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50 lbs and push/pull variable weight limits. The individual will be on their feet for the majority of their shift and may be exposed to noise from equipment. Work hours may vary depending on patient/resident needs and may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
  • Ability to use computer.
  • Prior cleaning experience is helpful.
  • Knowledge of materials, equipment, cleaning methods, and cleaning chemicals is helpful.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas.
  • Following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines.
  • Emptying waste baskets.
  • Sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment.
  • Cleaning patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
  • Wearing proper protective equipment following appropriate guidelines.
  • Keeping storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.
  • Using pagers and other technology appropriately when needed.
  • Assisting in the laundry areas as appropriate.
  • Using technology applications depending on location and availability of programs.
