About The Position

The Director of Environmental Services is a strategic and operational leader responsible for overseeing the cleanliness, safety, and regulatory compliance of healthcare facilities. This role ensures that all patient care environments meet the highest standards of hygiene and infection control, directly impacting patient experience, safety, and satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with 6 years relevant leadership experience including 3 years' experience as a manager.
  • Comprehensive understanding of healthcare operations, including infection control and patient safety standards.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., DNV, CMS, OSHA, NIAHO®).
  • Knowledge of human resources practices including staffing models and performance management.
  • Awareness of environmental services technologies and equipment used in healthcare settings.
  • Understanding of hazardous and non-hazardous waste management protocols.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Analytical skills to interpret KPIs, audit results, and patient feedback for performance improvement.
  • Project management skills to lead initiatives such as vendor transitions and process redesign.
  • Vision casting ability to inspire teams and align efforts toward shared goals.

Responsibilities

  • Champion enterprise-wide hygiene and safety initiatives by leading strategies that ensure all facilities consistently exceed regulatory and Confluence Health standards for cleanliness, safety, and infection control.
  • Position EVS as a critical partner in patient experience and safety.
  • Drive operational excellence through data-driven decision making by establishing and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) for labor productivity, service quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Use analytics to identify trends, optimize resource allocation, and inform strategic investments in technology and process improvement.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration for systemic improvements by forging strong partnerships with Nursing, Facilities, Infection Control, and Supply Chain to design and implement integrated solutions that enhance patient care environments and support organizational priorities.
  • Strategically manage departmental resources by overseeing the development and management of departmental budgets, focusing on long-term cost containment, sustainability, and value creation.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation in supply management and labor deployment.
  • Advance workforce capability and engagement by designing and implementing strategic talent management programs for onboarding, training, and professional development.
  • Cultivate a culture of accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement among EVS staff.
  • Ensure regulatory readiness and risk mitigation by proactively assessing and addressing regulatory risks, maintaining readiness for DNV, CMS, OSHA, and other standards.
  • Lead regular audits and develop action plans to close gaps and sustain compliance.
  • Champion innovation in infection prevention by collaborating with clinical leaders to evaluate and implement advanced cleaning protocols and technologies that reduce infection risk and support organizational goals for patient safety.
  • Lead the development and maintain oversight of the department budgeting process and results.
  • Design and deliver training programs on infection control, safety, and customer service.
  • Promote patient-centered service excellence by using patient feedback and performance data to drive continuous improvement in service delivery, ensuring EVS contributes meaningfully to patient satisfaction and organizational reputation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
