Per Diem Environmental Services Aide
About The Position

This Per Diem Environmental Services Aide performs housekeeping duties. Duties include cleaning patient rooms, offices, operating rooms and lobbies; changing bed linens; sweeping, vacuuming, mopping and buffing floors; and, removing trash and hazardous materials.
Requirements
- Equivalent to graduation from high school and six (6) months of experience in janitorial or custodial work.
- Knowledge of industrial cleaning supplies.
- Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques.
- Knowledge of department and hospital safety practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of patient rights.
- Knowledge of infection control policies and practices.
- Knowledge of handling, storage, usage and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Knowledge of department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
- Skill in mixing cleaning chemicals.
- Skill in safe use of hand equipment.
- Skill in working without close supervision in standard working situations.
- Skill in making beds and changing bed linen.
- Skill in proper lifting techniques.
- Skill in using equipment such as vacuum cleaners, mops, buffers and dollies.
- Skill in communicating effectively with people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties.
- Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment.
- Ability to operate hand equipment.
- Stamina to remain standing and walk for extended periods of time.
- Strength to lift and maneuver objects.
- Hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone.
- Strength and agility to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.
- Incumbents are exposed to diseases and hazardous materials and are required to contain infectious diseases and other contaminations such as lice.
Nice To Haves
- 1 year recent documented EVS experience in a Hospital/Acute Care Setting.
- 1 year recent documented EVS experience in Hotel Industry.
- Experience with Isolation Protocols.
- Experience with biohazard waste, handling & cleaning of infectious materials, when necessary.
- Availability to work ALL shifts, including graveyard, seven (7) days a week, as needed.
- Position may require a written and / or oral exam for core competencies.
