About The Position

Riverside Smithfield Hospital, opening in early 2026, will provide high-quality healthcare to Isle of Wight County residents from its 27-acre medical campus at 19339 Benn’s Grant Boulevard in Smithfield. This 200,000-square-foot, three-story facility will feature an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging Services, 38 Medical/Surgical beds, 12 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, and 4 Operating Rooms. The hospital aims to deliver compassionate, patient-centered care in a state-of-the-art environment. The Environmental Aide is responsible for performing proper housekeeping and cleaning duties that meet state, regulatory agency, facility, and RHS Infection Control standards, as well as Environmental Services policies and procedures. This role ensures a neat, clean, and safe work environment, maintains adequate cleaning supplies, and assists team members with moving equipment, cleaning, and beds.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year housekeeping/environmental services experience in a healthcare setting
  • Certified Auto External Defibrillator (AED) - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC)

Responsibilities

  • Cleans all assigned areas, including but not limited to patient rooms, bathrooms, corridors, public areas, elevators and ancillary areas such as nurses’ stations, laboratories, lounges, locker rooms, etc. by means not limited to sweeping, washing, mopping, dusting, disinfecting and sanitizing.
  • Uses the correct cleaners for the intended task and labels/stores chemicals safely and properly.
  • Restocks supplies and cleans carts daily in order to maintain a smooth flow of operations.
  • Ensures areas of responsibility are stocked with paper goods, soaps, chemicals and reusable goods as applicable.
  • Demonstrates the ability to terminally clean and keep the assigned area clean in accordance with RHS policies.
  • Maintains a safe patient care environment by consistently complying with RHS, DNV, State and regulatory standards to ensure the safety of patients, visitors and staff.
  • Follows guidelines for proper body mechanics, hazardous materials handling and universal precautions to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Maintains a safe work area.
  • Responsible for assuring safe practices as referenced in the National Patient Safety Goals and in accordance with RHS policies and procedures.
  • Performs all cleaning duties in a timely, safe, and thorough manner in compliance with Infection Control Standards, including dusting, cleaning, sanitizing, trash removal, and other services as needed.
  • Ensures areas are cleaned according to schedule and in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Ensures assignments completed in a timely manner ensuring quality/infection control measures are met consistently.
  • Ensures assigned areas are cleaned and continuously monitored to maintain highest quality of order/cleanliness in accordance with departmental policies/procedures and schedules.
