About The Position

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Environmental Service Worker IV - Part Time, Evenings - Bldg Services - ASC Suffolk - 12:00PM - 8:00PM Monday - Friday, Alternating Days; 15 Hours Per Week. In this role, the successful candidate serves a diverse population of patients, including those with special needs, at all stages of the life cycle. Environmental Service Worker IV demonstrates the ability to deal effectively with various age groups of patients, visitors and staff in order to provide required duties. The unique physical and psychosocial needs of patients relative to age-specific requirements are considered in the provision of ESW IV duties. Communication skills must be demonstrated through age-specific interactions that enhance customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency in order to follow written work assignments & maintain records.
  • Approximately one to three months experience to gain knowledge of cleaning procedures and power equipment use and maintenance.
  • Continued education through appropriate seminars, workshops, participation in departmental meetings, inservices & attention to NYU memorandum.
  • Good interpersonal skills demonstrable in interactions with staff, administrators, patients and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize work assignments.
  • Communicate with ES Manager/Supervisor regarding progress of assigned duties and completion of assignment.
  • Communicate with ES Manager/Supervisors at the beginning of the shift regarding the day’s agenda and goals.
  • Communicate to ES Manager/Supervisors at the end of shift any assignments not completed.
  • Dry mops/damp mops assigned areas.
  • Operate floor buffing equipment.
  • Operate automatic scrubbing machine.
  • Make decisions on what products are needed to complete assignment on time.
  • Ensure floor is free of debris.
  • Keep corners and baseboards clean in assigned areas.
  • Clean up all blood and body fluids.
  • Obtain equipment and supplies in an efficient manner.
  • Ensure all equipment is safe and in proper working condition.
  • Know and properly use all chemicals.
  • Know and safely use equipment for moving heavy objects.
  • Break down equipment at the end of shift.
  • Place equipment in proper storage area.
  • Notify Environmental Supervisor of equipment in need of repair.
  • Know and properly use chemicals used in floor refinishing.
  • Perform proper procedures to shower scrub, strip and refinish floors.
  • Consistently use wet floor signs while floor refinishing in a safe manner.
  • Know and properly use chemicals used in carpet cleaning.
  • Know all equipment used in carpet cleaning processes.
  • Inspect and wash curtains as assigned by Environmental Supervisor.
  • Interface with Nurse Manager on areas that need curtains cleaned.
  • Remove curtains for cleaning.
  • Replace curtains after cleaning.
  • Safely operate washer and dryer according to manufacturer instructions.
  • Move and relocate offices when needed.
  • Set up conference rooms as directed by Environmental Support Supervisor.
  • Willingly change hours to ensure the completion of duties with minimal interruptions to hospital services.
  • Perform schedules of all ESW I, ESW II, ESW III workers excluding management.
  • Perform specialized cleaning as required by assignment to the area worked.
  • Clean up all blood and body fluids on all surfaces.
  • Empty all trashcans.
  • Clean receptacles.
  • Identify and correct safety hazards (i.e. spills, etc.).
  • Replace liners.
  • Transport all trash to waste staging area consistently throughout the day.
  • Operate equipment following all safety policies and procedures.
  • Clean immediate area surrounding trashcans.
  • Separate cardboard, red-bag, black-bag, recycling and place in appropriate receptacles.
  • Demonstrate safety while pulling carts throughout the Medical Center.
  • Utilize AIDET with each patient, visitor and staff encounter.
  • Promote and project the hospitals service standards in their daily job tasks.
  • Promote a positive patient experience during all patient encounters.
  • Demonstrate competencies related to the 7-step room cleaning procedure.
  • Provide consistent work performance and meet productivity standards.
