About The Position

This position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the medical center through various cleaning duties. The role involves floor care, waste and linen management, and adherence to infection control policies. The Environmental Service Worker will contribute to the overall mission of delivering excellent healthcare through a culture of care and compassion.

Requirements

  • Must have floor care, linen, or industrial/hotel or health care facility experience.

Nice To Haves

  • High School or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Strips, waxes, and maintains tile floors throughout the medical center.
  • Cleans corners and baseboards when stripping floors.
  • Ensures that janitor closets are kept cleaned and equipment is replaced in the proper location.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of correct use and appropriate dilution of chemicals.
  • Responsible for economical use of supplies as controlled through distribution.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of hard surface floor care and carpet.
  • Performs dust mopping, damp mopping, and burnishing/buffing as needed.
  • Accepts special cleaning assignments and completes them promptly and thoroughly.
  • Attends and participates in monthly department staff meetings and staff development programs when scheduled.
  • Is responsible for all information communicated at the meetings.
  • Demonstrates efficient use of time as evident by completion of assigned projects.
  • Reports free time to the coordinator and assists others as required.
  • Reports any and all malfunctions of equipment or service problems to the Supervisor.
  • Cleans service corridors, waiting rooms, stairways, and other assigned areas.
  • Collects waste and soiled linens from all areas of the hospital.
  • Handles biomedical waste as established by Infection Control Policy and Procedures.
  • Transports soiled linen directly to the soiled linen area.
  • Transports soiled linen using universal precautions and ensures it is covered at all times.
  • Properly follows all infection control guidelines.
  • Assists the Laundry provider with loading and unloading clean and soiled linen carts.
  • Follows hand washing procedures performed after removal of gloves and prior to handling clean linen.
