About The Position

This position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the medical center. Key duties include floor care (stripping, waxing, maintaining tile floors, dust mopping, burnishing/buffing), cleaning various areas of the hospital (corridors, waiting rooms, stairways), waste and soiled linen collection, handling biomedical waste according to infection control policies, and assisting the laundry provider. The role also involves maintaining janitor closets, proper chemical usage and dilution, economical use of supplies, and prompt completion of special cleaning assignments. Employees are expected to attend staff meetings and development programs, manage their time efficiently, and report any equipment malfunctions or service problems. Adherence to infection control guidelines, including hand washing and universal precautions, is critical.

Requirements

  • Must have floor care, linen, or industrial/hotel or health care facility experience.

  • High School or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Strips, waxes & maintains tile floors throughout the medical center.
  • Cleans corners and baseboards when stripping floors.
  • Ensures that janitor closets are kept cleaned and equipment is replaced in proper location.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of correct use and appropriate dilution of chemicals.
  • Responsible for economical use of supply as controlled through distribution.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of hard surface floor care, and carpet.
  • Dust, damp mopping and burnishing/buffing as evident on observation.
  • Accepts special cleaning assignments and completes promptly and thoroughly.
  • Attends and participates in monthly department staff meetings staff development programs when scheduled.
  • Is responsible for all information communicated at the meetings.
  • Demonstrates efficient use of time as evident by completion of projects that are assigned.
  • Reports free time to coordinator, assists others as required as evident by adherence to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Reports to Supervisor any and all malfunctions of the equipment or services problems.
  • Cleans services corridors, waiting rooms, stairways and other assigned areas.
  • Collects waste and soil linens from all areas of the hospital and handles biomedical waste as established by Infection Control Policy and Procedures.
  • Transports soiled linen directly to soiled linen area.
  • Transports soiled linen using universal precautions, and covered at all times.
  • Properly follows all infection control guidelines.
  • Assists Laundry provider with loading and unloading clean and soiled linen carts.
  • Follows hand washing procedures performed after removal of gloves and prior to handling clean linen.
