About The Position

St. Joseph’s Westgate Medical Center is a 23-bed non-profit facility providing quality healthcare to patients and communities in and around Glendale, Arizona. As part of CommonSpirit Health, it operates 139 hospitals and over 1,000 care sites across 21 states. The Environmental Service Specialty Tech provides basic and specialized cleaning services throughout the hospital, with a primary focus on maintaining and cleaning hard and soft flooring surfaces, including stairwells, hallways, and public spaces, using heavy mechanical equipment. The role also involves working in Specialty Units to ensure a safe care environment by applying cleaning, disinfecting, and quality assurance principles to reduce harmful pathogens. Responsibilities may also include tasks from the Environmental Services Tech I classification.

Requirements

• Provide basic and specialized cleaning services throughout the hospital.
• Maintain and clean hard and soft flooring surfaces, including stairwells, hallways, and public spaces, using heavy mechanical equipment such as scrubbers, buffers, polishers, extractors, and wet vacuuming equipment.
• Work in Specialty Units, providing a safe care environment for patients, and staff (visitors as appropriate to setting) within a specialty area (surgical services/perioperative suite, cath lab, endoscopy, etc.) achieved by demonstrating the principles of cleaning, disinfecting and quality assurance toward the reduction of harmful pathogens for the benefit of patients, visitors and staff.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements, proper and safe chemical use, equipment handling, and labor saving products for all items within the specialty environment tasked with servicing.

Responsibilities

• Performs all types of floor care and maintenance throughout the facility, including hard surfaces and carpeting.
• Performs project work and specialty tasks according to facility needs, such as conference room setup/dismantle, cleaning of stairwells and elevators, and hanging of cubicle curtains.
• Responsible for cleaning and disinfection of specialty units & equipment, including areas such as Surgical Services, Labor Delivery, Critical Care, Endoscopy, MRI, Trauma, Cath Lab, NICU, Mental Health, and Burn Unit.
• Demonstrates working knowledge of healthcare cleaning and disinfecting principles, proper and safe chemical use, equipment handling, and labor-saving products for all items within the specialty environment.
