Performs environmental service functions in departments and common and public areas of the hospital. Responsibilities include ensuring the cleanliness of offices, public areas, stairwells, elevators, corridors, and call rooms. The role involves collecting trash, recyclables, and medical waste, exchanging sharps boxes, and policing grounds for debris. Additional duties include vacuuming and shampooing carpets, stripping, waxing, and buffing hard floors, and performing general operational maintenance on equipment such as changing vacuum belts and bags, checking electrical cords, and replacing light bulbs. The associate will identify maintenance needs and report deficiencies, perform discharge cleaning of patient and family sleep rooms, attend department/hospital in-service orientations and meetings, and respond to non-routine situations. The role also includes delivering food items, safely using chemicals and cleaning agents according to MSDS guidelines, and maintaining established policies and procedures. Furniture moving, conference room set-ups, and other related duties are also part of the role. The associate must demonstrate knowledge of age-related differences and needs of patients across different age groups and apply them to practice, exhibit cultural sensitivity, and support the mission, values, and goals of the organization.
