About The Position

WSP is seeking a Temporary Early Career Environmental Scientist for their Nashville, TN or Kennesaw, GA office. This role is part of the Earth & Environment Team and focuses on Natural Resources and Permitting. The candidate will provide technical assistance for data collection, identification, and compilation for biological, physical, and earth science projects. This position involves collaboration with planners, scientists, and engineers to deliver impactful results for clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related life sciences field.
  • Analytical skills and familiarity with research techniques.
  • Familiarity with local/regional ecology and habitats, and applicable species/discipline.
  • Familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with scientific and non-scientific audiences.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, and as part of a team.
  • Basic proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work outside under a variety of site and weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Wetlands Professional in Training (WPIT) status with the Society of Wetland Scientists.
  • Herbaceous and woody plant identification skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct natural resource field surveys under general supervision.
  • Perform wetland delineations, T&E surveys, and natural resource inventories (NRIs).
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate measurement and documentation.
  • Assist with basic professional environmental science work related to ecological systems and water resources.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide entry-level technical assistance on environmental issues.
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field notebooks.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures, including sample collection, data logging, and record-keeping.
  • Utilize the latest technologies, instrumentation, and techniques for studies and analysis of habitats, sites, and potential environmental impacts.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
