About The Position

We are seeking an environmental scientist with Clear Air Act and Drinking Water Act experience to provide full time on-site support at Joint Base Lewis-McChord North, Tacoma, WA. The successful candidate will provide technical support and serve as the primary monitoring/inspection support for compliance with the JBLM air operating permit.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental science or related field and a minimum of one (1) year of experience OR a minimum of four (4) years of experience in stormwater inspections, sampling, and monitoring if no degree.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of the Clean Air Act, Drinking Water Act, and other applicable state laws and regulations.
  • Excellent time management skills, and the ability to work independently and meet strict government and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Experience conducting water sampling and reviewing data for accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people.
  • Physical ability to conduct day-long inspections and sampling walking across varying terrain and under differing weather conditions.
  • Dependable, fast, accurate, and extremely detail oriented.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a federal agency background investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site visits/assessments with proponents comprised of various types of air operating permits, relevant rules and regulations, and operations, to assist in establishing and maintaining environmental compliance.
  • Research and maintain knowledge on the specific processes/equipment undertaken on the installation which contribute to air pollution.
  • Conduct drinking water sampling at high-risk facilities and PFAS sampling at wells according to the prescribed schedules.
  • Provide updates to program management plans, standard operating procedures, and inspection checklists.
  • Support outreach, education and training to soldiers and civilians on JBLM applicable to the programs.
  • Conduct other monitoring, sampling, and inspections as required for permit compliance.
