About The Position

Wilson Construction Company specializes in the design and construction of vital electric utility infrastructure. We are seeking an Environmental Scientist to support our Rancho Cordova and El Dorado Hills, California offices. Our Environmental Department focuses on environmental permitting and compliance management within the electrical utility construction industry, offering expertise in permitting, onsite inspection and monitoring, erosion and sediment control, mitigation planning, restoration, revegetation, and environmental training. This role will oversee permitting and compliance efforts primarily across northern California operations. Responsibilities include estimating environmental costs, managing environmental resource protection during construction, coordinating with project teams, ensuring implementation of environmental requirements, and maintaining compliance with environmental regulations for northern California facilities. The position requires work in both office and field settings, including travel. A client-focused approach and strong teamwork skills are essential, along with excellent written and verbal communication, client interaction, organizational skills, and proficiency in MS Office applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Natural Resources, Biology, or another related field.
  • Work experience in a related/relevant field (biology, storm water, geology, hydrology, etc.).
  • Experience conducting and documenting field work.
  • Capable of performing strenuous fieldwork and walking long distances.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and in writing with various levels of staff and personality types.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Must be able to work outside and travel, as necessary.
  • Must have a valid state driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Stormwater experience or certifications preferred.
  • Experience in environmental permitting or compliance, including CWA, RHA, ESA, Section 106, NEPA, CEQA, etc. preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting field monitoring and inspecting for environmental compliance (hydrocarbon spills, erosion and sediment control, sensitive resource mitigation).
  • Tracking current bids and projects.
  • Estimating and managing project environmental costs.
  • Developing plans to meet mitigation requirements on a given project.
  • Implementing erosion and stormwater controls at construction sites.
  • Availability to travel as needed and spend extended periods of time at project locations distant from the Aurora office.
  • Interaction and effective communication with all levels of Project Management staff, field superintendents, clients, and vendors.
