About The Position

AECOM is looking for a Mid-Level Environmental Scientist position in Fort Lauderdale office. The successful candidate will work within an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment that provides career growth opportunities within AECOM’s Remediation Southeast Team. This position will consist of both in-person and virtual (telework) work environments and will include performing environmental contamination assessments, contamination remediation, plan reviews, and technical report writing. The successful candidate will provide technical skills leading and supporting Environmental Remediation projects within the department and will develop strong relationships with the team and clients to enable pursuit of new opportunities. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team, clients, site personnel and office management, and work both independently and as part of a project team. The successful candidate will be committed to the team's success and growth; will rigorously apply safety policies and procedures; will manage the technical, cost and schedule elements of project delivery; and will effectively manage the quality of field efforts and project deliverables within the bounds of the AECOM Quality Management System.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Environmental Science or related field
  • 4+ years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Experience working in wetlands with protected speicies
  • Valid U.S Driver's License and as a condition of employment, must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records Review
  • Due to the nature of this work, United States citizenship is a requirement

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Degree in Environmental Science or related field
  • Experience working with Floridia Department of Transportation
  • 5+ years of experience working in a environmental consulting firm
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification
  • Willingness to travel, complete field work, and work extended hours, when necessary
  • Knowledge of Florida environmental regulations and setting

Responsibilities

  • Fully qualified scientist. Utilizes scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.
  • Requires general familiarity within a broad field of scientific knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other disciplines/fields.
  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions.
  • Solves problems by use of combinations of standard procedures, modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
  • Participates in planning required to achieve prescribed objectives.
  • Conducts analysis and investigation work obtained from a variety of sources.
  • Performs inspections and tests to ensure compliance.
  • Participates in developing corrective measures and procedures. Formulates hypothesis, performs research and makes recommendation.
