About The Position

Barr is seeking an environmental scientist to join our team in Minneapolis or Duluth, Minnesota. In this hybrid role, you will support our Water Resources group with characterization of environmental resources, impact assessments, and project permitting and compliance. A successful person in this role will have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. They possess exceptional organizational skills, can work in a fast-paced environment, and have a flexible working style. They are also willing to occasionally modify their schedule to meet deadlines and/or client needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, studies, or policy; ecology; natural resources management; biology; botany; or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of environmental consulting or regulatory agency work experience related to the job responsibilities described above.
  • Effective oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional technical writing skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to site and client locations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with GIS tools (ArcGIS, Collector, AGOL, Field Maps, etc.).
  • Experience with wetland delineations, wetland assessments, wetland restoration design and construction, and restoration contracting and management.
  • Experience with NEPA/MEPA.
  • Applied knowledge of state and federal endangered species programs.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing federal, state, local and tribal environmental regulations for project applicability.
  • Communicating with regulatory agencies and clients, developing and reviewing environmental permit applications.
  • Conducting and writing environmental impact assessments and related documentation interpreting regulatory and permitting processes.
  • Working as part of a multidisciplinary project team with members including colleagues, as well as regulatory agency and client contacts.
  • Assessing baseline conditions; conducting and performing desktop ecological resources; and preparing clear, technical impact analyses and supporting documentation (i.e., raptor surveys, migratory bird surveys, noxious weed inventories, suitable habitat evaluations, etc.)
  • Assisting in planning, coordinating, and executing projects.
  • Helping meet project milestones and providing regular updates to project managers and clients.
