About The Position

The Division of Air Quality monitors and regulates emissions to the air. It issues permits to construct and permits to operate air contaminant sources. It maintains emission inventories from business and industry. It develops the State’s implementation plan as required by the Clean Air Act. It adopts new regulations and supports enforcement of existing regulations, and it permits and inspects asbestos removal efforts. This position is the lead scientist for the Analytical Support Group (ASG) in the Division of Air Quality and performs air quality modeling & quality driven analysis of ambient air monitoring data for the Division to support clean air and climate programs. The ASG is responsible for quality assurance (QA) of all ambient air quality monitoring data & supervises two QA ES. This position is the lead for conducting special air quality studies & conducting air quality modeling to predict the effects of air quality policies and to understand effects of emissions into the air. Requirements

  • Possession of a Masters degree in Life, Physical, or Applied Science or related field.
  • Recognized for scientific expertise through publication in scientific and/or professional trade journal(s).
  • Three years' experience in environmental or natural resources project management such as planning, developing, implementing, managing and evaluating environmental or natural resources projects to ensure objectives are met.
  • Five years' experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data.
  • Five years' experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Possess a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Responsibilities

  • Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations.
  • Performs statistical analysis of data.
  • Conducts technical reviews and makes recommendations on permit applications or other various regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Prepares permits, technical reports and/or enforcement case documents.
  • Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals.
