About The Position

AECOM is seeking an entry-level Environmental Scientist/Engineer for a role focused on the assessment, management, and remediation of contaminated soil, groundwater, and sediment sites. This position involves applying established engineering and environmental science principles to evaluate site conditions, develop remediation strategies, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. The role operates under general supervision, with opportunities to independently manage project components and support senior engineers on complex assignments.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental related discipline.
Strong team work, able to listen to requirements and work well with others
Excellent attention to detail and a thorough approach to work.
Critical thinking and problem solving
Flexible and hard working
Able to work outdoors, often in inclement weather conditions, physically able to walk long distances in rugged terrain and carry up to 44 lbs of equipment
Understanding of soil and groundwater contamination processes.
Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (e.g., BC CSR, AEPA/AER Regs, CCME guidelines, or equivalent across Western Canada).
Analytical thinking and problem-solving
Strong technical writing and documentation
Project coordination and time management
Effective communication with team members, clients and regulators
Attention to detail and quality assurance
Valid and unrestricted driver’s license

Nice To Haves

2 years of experience in contaminated sites assessment and remediation.
Geologist/Engineer-in-Training (GIT/EIT) or eligible.

Responsibilities

Groundwater Monitoring – purging and sample collection from monitoring wells
Drilling – environmental drilling, ground disturbance procedures, soil description and monitoring well installation
Soil sampling – field screening, soil sample collection procedures
Field notes – taking organized and detailed field notes, recording observations
Safety – leading and participating in field meetings, oversight of subcontractors, contribute to and following safe work practices, developing/following/implementing safety plans on a day-to-day basis, recognizing hazards, confidence in exercising stop work authority.
Collects and enters data and applies technical principles and theories under supervision.
Adhere to and promote health and safety protocols in the office and field.
Identify and mitigate environmental and occupational hazards.
Participate in incident investigations and corrective actions as needed.
