About The Position

Arcadis is seeking an Environmental Due Diligence (EDD) Practitioner (Environmental Scientist, Environmental Engineer, or Environmental or Health & Safety area disciplines) to support national and regional EDD projects and programs, including site evaluation, research, and report writing. While this position requires both field and office work, the ideal candidate will be located in one of the areas listed above and can expect to spend up to 40 to 50% of their time in the field (mainly regional). As part of our Resilience Environment team, you’ll help improve quality of life. With your expertise in environmental science / environmental engineering, you will work closely with Arcadis’ established EDD Community of Practice group to develop technical assessment and writing skills to support Phase I ESA projects and support the Practice by producing high quality work products for our clients, in accordance with the ASTM International (ASTM) Designation: E1527-21 Standard Practice for Environmental Site Assessments: Phase I Environmental Site Assessment Process (ASTM E1527-21).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or closely related field
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Prepared to work outside in potentially inclement weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience conducting, writing, and evaluating Phase I ESAs
  • Previous industry, consulting, or internship experience in the environmental sector
  • Client interaction and/or management experience
  • Some knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including but not limited to air, solid and hazardous waste, water, chemical/petroleum bulk storage, environmental assessments, RCRA, SARA, and CERCLA

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Phase I ESAs and associated projects.
  • Conduct site visits at retail, commercial, and manufacturing facilities.
  • Conduct interviews with property representatives and government agencies.
  • Perform file review requests.
  • Document field observations, interview details, and photographic evidence in a clear and factual manner.
  • Perform data review and research tasks, including evaluation of historical records (such as maps and aerial photographs, and prior reports), remediation reports, and environmental database records and associated permits.
  • Identify and conduct further research with appropriate regulatory agencies as needed to meet the ASTM standard or client needs.
  • Support in writing and preparing technical reports, summarizing key records as they pertain to potential environmental conditions at a property.
  • Contribute to preparation of figures and other graphical representations to include in Phase I or other due diligence reports.
  • Provide input regarding potential environmental conditions and risks, and the approach to evaluating those risks (i.e., Phase II ESA).
  • Understand the process and contents of ASTM E1527-21 for conducting Phase I ESAs.
  • Work closely with Arcadis’ established EDD Community of Practice group to develop technical assessment and writing skills to support Phase I ESA and other EDD projects.
  • Interact with clients and site contacts to conduct site visits, interviews with property representatives and government agencies, and file reviews.
  • Document site observations, interview details, and photographic evidence from site visits in a clear and succinct manner.
  • Review documents and summarize key historical information, remedial activities and outcomes, environmental database listings and regulatory permits, and conduct further research with appropriate agencies as necessary to meet the ASTM standard or other client needs.
  • Summarize the evaluation of relevant data within the Phase I ESA framework, using provided templates, to produce high quality work products for our clients.
  • Provide input regarding potential environmental risks, and the possible approach to evaluating those risks (i.e., Phase II ESA).
