About The Position

Apex is seeking a Project Scientist to join our environmental team supporting projects throughout Eastern Pennsylvania and Western New Jersey. This is an field-based position for an environmental professional who enjoys hands-on work, site investigations, sampling, and working in a variety of project environments. We are open to candidates with approximately 2+ years of experience and are looking for someone with a strong foundation in environmental fieldwork who is eager to continue developing their technical skills. The home office for this position is Iselin, NJ, with employees expected to visit the Iselin office approximately once per month. The majority of project work will be located throughout Eastern PA, including Harrisburg and east, as well as Western NJ. Overnight travel is expected approximately once per quarter.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of environmental consulting or environmental field experience.
  • Experience with environmental field sampling, site investigations, and data collection.
  • Experience with some combination of Geoprobe/direct-push drilling, groundwater sampling, low-flow sampling, air sampling, or environmental site visits.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with environmental field procedures and documentation.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and adapt to a variety of project types.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety and safe work practices.
  • Experience with data management and technical report preparation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver's license, good driving history, and reliable transportation are required, as driving a personal vehicle to project sites will be necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with NJDEP, NYSDEC, and/or PADEP regulations is preferred.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification preferred.
  • Light construction experience or hands-on skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform environmental field investigations and site visits at commercial, industrial, and other properties.
  • Collect soil, groundwater, surface water, air, and building material samples.
  • Perform and assist with low-flow groundwater sampling and other groundwater monitoring activities.
  • Assist with Geoprobe drilling and direct-push investigations.
  • Conduct air sampling and other environmental sampling activities.
  • Document field activities, maintain accurate field notes, and ensure data is collected in accordance with project requirements.
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret environmental data.
  • Prepare technical reports, tables, and other project documentation.
  • Follow established field procedures and ensure safe performance of all project work.
  • Manage assigned tasks efficiently and complete work within established schedules and budgets.
  • Work independently in the field while communicating effectively with project managers and team members.
  • Develop technical knowledge and continue building your environmental consulting career.
