The Environmental & Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations for both state and federal requirements. The Environmental & Safety Specialist is also responsible for Safety development, training, and assessment at all the Hentzen Facilities.

Requirements

  • Understanding of and ability to use mathematical equations and environmental documents.

  • Superb written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook), ERP system and other office machinery.
  • Works well in a team environment.
  • Excellent team building and communications skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a Science or Environmental/Health/Safety program.
  • Three to five years of experience in manufacturing environment, preferably chemicals or coatings.
  • Supervisor experience is helpful, but not required.
  • Additional education in environment and safety programs/procedures.
  • Forklift certification strongly preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all raw materials on premises have requisite Safety Data Sheet and that the SDS is copied and placed in SDS binder.
  • Review SDS to ensure that all employees who will handle the product are aware of safety requirements for safe handling of the product.
  • Review all state and federal environmental and safety regulations including pending changes in regulations to ensure that company practices are in compliance.
  • Maintain and comply with all federal, state, and local environmental, safety and DOT reporting requirements.
  • Train new employees in environmental, safety and DOT practices and re-train all pertinent employees as necessary due to compliance changes and requirements.
  • Conduct safety training for all employees in order to meet and/or exceed Federal and State EPA, OSHA and DOT standards in all areas required.
  • Conduct requisite re-training and/or re-testing of employees in order to comply with environmental safety, DOT standards.
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections per OSHA, EPA, and DOT guidelines.
  • Assist the Corporate Director of Regulatory Compliance with the completion and submittal of various required OSHA, EPA, and DOT reports.
  • Review environmental, safety and DOT procedures in the event of any incident and develop processes to mitigate future incidents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
