The Environmental Safety Manager provides guidance and advice to corporate and manufacturing staff regarding company environmental control policy and programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and operating permits. This role involves identifying environmental permitting needs, developing company policies and procedures concerning waste and emissions discharges, and investigating noncompliance conditions. The incumbent collects data, analyzes the impact of new regulations, and may negotiate with regulatory staff. The position also leads efforts to develop and maintain a safety culture, define processes for continuous improvement in safety performance, and develop the safety skill set of management and safety committee leaders. The manager ensures compliance with regulatory standards, coordinates with third parties for safety improvement services, and actively works to reduce workplace accidents and illnesses. Responsibilities include maintaining comprehensive knowledge of federal and state safety laws, preparing reports, providing safety training, overseeing incident investigations, and managing workers’ compensation claims. The manager independently identifies compliance issues, develops action plans, and is responsible for reviewing and approving environmental and safety documents.
