About The Position

The City of Inver Grove Heights is looking to hire for the position of Environmental Resources Maintenance Helper to perform stormwater and natural resources maintenance activities through the City of Inver Grove Heights. Work will be performed under the general direction of the Street Lead Worker, Environmental Engineering Technician, and other full-time Maintenance Staff. The Environmental Resources Maintenance Helper position will receive on-the-job training to learn stormwater and natural resource management maintenance skills and put those skills into practice completing a wide variety of projects through the City.

  • Ability to work 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, with the possibility of working some weekends.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive.
  • Must pass a background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Must be a US Citizen, US National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the US.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to drive trucks and tow trailers.
  • Knowledge of basic equipment use, maintenance, and safe operations of such.
  • Previous experience in outdoor maintenance activities, particularly related to vegetation management, maintenance, and removal.
  • Familiarization with hand tools, power tools, and/or light mechanical equipment.
  • Interest in Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Stormwater/Water Resource Management, Public Works, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Performing a wide variety of routine maintenance and inspection of stormwater, natural resources, and environmental resources components within City properties, including street right-of-way, parks, and stormwater basins.
  • Assisting with removal of sediment, vegetation, and debris to maintain proper drainage functions of the City’s stormwater system.
  • Maintaining raingardens, buffer areas, and natural/native planting areas through mowing, trimming, weeding, and herbicide application.
  • Documenting inspection of erosion control on a variety of public and private projects.
  • Assisting staff with surveying and documenting location of stormwater and natural resource infrastructure components through the use of a GPS unit and GIS software programs.
