About The Position

The Environmental & Regulatory Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all manufacturing and warehousing operations in the United States and Canada adhere to federal, state, provincial, and local environmental and regulatory standards. This position works collaboratively with the Volm Corporate Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Team, site leaders, and legal and external regulators to mitigate risk, reduce liability, support safe operations, and maintain a culture of compliance. Key regulatory compliance responsibilities include proactive program maintenance, contact management, tracking of annual inspections, required permit and reporting actions, oversight of remediation activities, and citation closeouts in partnership with responsible parties.

  • Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations, compliance, and program management normally acquired by completion of a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental management, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, or equivalent work experience.
  • Well-developed and demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local/provincial environmental and occupational safety, health, regulations (OSHA, OHSA, DEQ, EPA, DNR, CEPA).

Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly understand and ensure that federal, state, provincial, and local laws, regulations, rules, and codes are observed, complied with, and administered by applicable company personnel.
  • Provide advice, counseling, and technical support to site leaders for environmental compliance regulations and updates.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, maintenance, and update of EHS procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed environmental, health, safety, and compliance records and documentation per applicable regulatory bodies (OSHA/OHSA, LNI, Cal/OSHA, DEQ, DNR, EPA, etc.)
  • Assist Volm team members to properly identify, classify, record, inspect, and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous waste material in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and codes.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits and scheduled inspections at manufacturing and warehousing facilities to identify risks and ensure adherence to environmental permits and waste management protocols.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports, permit applications, and notifications to applicable agencies.
  • Train facility and operations staff on compliance procedures, best practices, and updates to regulations.
  • Maintain, manage, and administer chemical inventory and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) programs.
  • Investigate and respond to compliance incidents, environmental spills, regulatory inquiries/citation, or employee complaints and recommendations, coordinating root cause analyses and corrective actions.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes across all covered jurisdictions and assess their impact on operations, recommending policy updates or process improvements.
  • Partner with General Counsel and the Corporate EHS Director to represent the company in interactions with environmental regulatory agencies, including participating in site visits, negotiations, and appeals.
  • Ensure tracking and timely completion of all assigned EHS regulatory compliance actions via EHS management software, calendar administration, and communication with key stakeholders.
