About The Position

The Environmental Regulatory Specialist plays a key role in supporting the organization’s environmental and regulatory compliance efforts. This position focuses on tracking and ensuring adherence to federal, provincial, and municipal regulations, including environmental Permits, Licenses, Approvals, Agreements (PLAA) and bylaws. The role is ideal for individuals beginning their career in regulatory affairs and environmental compliance, offering hands-on experience in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, Environmental Science, Regulatory Affairs, Urban Planning/Development, or a related field.
  • 0-2 years' experience (co-op, work) in a related field
  • Familiarity with municipal bylaws and permitting processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and compliance tracking tools.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update databases for all PLAA, including municipal development and operating permits, associated commitments and conditions, and monitoring timelines, renewals, amendments, and reporting requirements.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting documentation and application packages for municipal, provincial and federal regulatory bodies.
  • Support internal audits and inspections to verify compliance with applicable laws, permits, and bylaws, while assisting in identifying non-compliance issues and tracking corrective actions.
  • Help prepare compliance reports and summaries for internal teams and external agencies.
  • Track and interpret relevant municipal bylaws affecting operations (e.g., land use, noise, waster, environmental aspect) and support assessment of their impact to ensure operational alignment.
  • Organize and maintain accurate records of permits, correspondence, and compliance activities and assist in preparing documentation for regulatory agencies, municipal authorities, and internal reviews.
  • Work closely with operations, environmental, legal, and municipal liaison teams and other stakeholders to ensure consistent compliance while participating in training and development to build regulatory knowledge and skills.
