About The Position

Imagine stepping into the role of an Environmental Protection Intern at a large-scale manufacturing site where environmental compliance, sustainability, and operational excellence come together. In this position, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting the operation of an industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant, giving you a firsthand look at how environmental systems protect natural resources while supporting manufacturing operations. You'll work alongside experienced environmental professionals to monitor treatment processes, assess the reliability of critical equipment, and contribute to compliance programs that help ensure the site meets environmental regulations. You'll also gain exposure to budgeting and waste management activities, learning how environmental stewardship and business operations work together to drive responsible decision-making. This is an opportunity to move beyond the classroom and apply your environmental, engineering, or science knowledge to real-world challenges. You'll develop practical skills, expand your understanding of environmental protection in an industrial setting, and see the direct impact your work has on the safety, sustainability, and success of the Sistersville site.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Completed at least one year of undergraduate coursework prior to the start of the internship
  • Strong interest in environmental compliance, sustainability, manufacturing operations, and industrial wastewater treatment
  • Ability to analyze data, solve problems, and communicate findings effectively
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • The candidate must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of application and for at least one semester following the conclusion of the internship.
  • The candidate is expected to be available 40 hours a week for a period of 10-12 weeks between the months of May and August.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Environmental Process Analysis: Evaluate kiln and environmental process performance to identify improvement opportunities, optimize operations, and support environmental compliance goals.
  • Support Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvement Initiatives: Assist in developing and evaluating upgrade plans for the site's wastewater treatment systems, including process improvements, equipment enhancements, and long-term sustainability projects.
  • Monitor and Improve Equipment Reliability: Analyze the performance and reliability of critical environmental protection equipment and recommend solutions to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and ensure operational effectiveness.
  • Participate in Environmental Compliance Activities: Review environmental programs, operating procedures, and regulatory requirements to help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental standards.
  • Collaborate on Waste Management and Sustainability Projects: Support initiatives focused on waste reduction, resource conservation, and environmental stewardship throughout the manufacturing site.
  • Analyze Operational Data and Develop Recommendations: Collect, interpret, and present environmental performance data to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Partner with Cross-Functional Teams: Work alongside Environmental, Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations professionals to solve real-world environmental challenges and support site objectives.
