Are you looking to… Lead and manage environmental work on some of the most complex and high-profile infrastructure projects in Ontario Shape how environmental management scopes are integrated into design and construction Work in a collaborative project delivery environment Grow your career by managing multi-disciplinary teams As an Environmental Project Manager, Major Projects, you will join our Guelph or Oakville, Ontario office (hybrid) as part of our Alternative Delivery team working closely with the Montrose Project Management Office. The successful applicant will be a key contributor to Montrose’s established and growing portfolio of environmental services for major infrastructure projects. Through both project delivery and opportunity pursuits, the Environmental Project Manager will help expand our presence in the market while ensuring the successful execution of challenging, multi-disciplinary environmental scopes. The Environmental Project Manager will collaborate closely with internal and external subject matter experts to meet the needs of large, fast-paced projects across the region.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience with a proven track record of delivering multi-disciplinary environmental scopes on large infrastructure projects
  • Deep understanding of environmental permitting, regulatory frameworks, and technical requirements relevant to design and construction projects
  • Strong leadership and coordination skills, capable of leading multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience working on major projects delivered under an alternative delivery model (e.g., P3, DB, Progressive, or similar) with the ability to navigate fast-paced, collaborative environments
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement abilities, including working with clients, owners, regulators, Indigenous communities, and partner firms
  • Advanced project controls skills, including budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, risk management, and change management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage subcontractors and partners while maintaining quality and safety standards
  • A relationship builder who can develop strong client partnerships and contribute to business development and opportunity pursuits
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills, with the ability to anticipate issues, identify risks and implement practical solutions
  • A valid class G driver’s license is required
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental planning, urban planning, environmental science, engineering, or a related field is required

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge or technical working experience with Ontario Regulations 153/04 and 406/19
  • Knowledge and working experience with regulatory requirements such as the Environmental Assessment Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, and Environmental Protection Act
  • Experience working with Metrolinx and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO)
  • Familiarity or working knowledge of ISO 14001
  • Professional designations such as PMP, EP, P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Biol., RPBio., or similar

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage environmental work packages on major infrastructure projects in Ontario in accordance with project agreements and schedules
  • Provide leadership across planning, design, permitting, and construction
  • Collaborate with clients, engineering partners, owners, regulatory bodies, and subconsultants to integrate environmental requirements into project design and execution
  • Engage and liaise with regulators and stakeholders
  • Coordinate with internal project team across disciplines, including engineers, scientists, hydrogeologists, and ecologists
  • Manage and oversee subcontractors and partners, such as environmental drillers, specialty consultants, and field services teams
  • Apply strong project controls skills, including scope definition, forecasting, and budgeting
  • Develop strong client relationships within the infrastructure sector in Ontario and across Canada
  • Lead and contribute to opportunity pursuits, including bid strategy, proposal preparation, work plans, schedules, and cost estimates for multi-disciplinary major projects
  • Work closely with Montrose’s Project Management Office, ensuring alignment with PMO standards, best practices, and project risk management.
