About The Position

Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects, a national multi-disciplined engineering and architecture consulting firm, is seeking a full-time Environmental Professional – Field Archaeologist in Phoenix, Arizona. This role involves collaborating with a team of environmental professionals to perform archaeological and historic architectural surveys, draft reports and site forms, conduct environmental analyses, and deliver quality documents for federal, state, local, and tribal clients. The work supports compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, and other applicable federal and state regulations for cultural and environmental resource management. The position requires assisting with archaeological fieldwork throughout the Southwest/Four Corners area, working with a Project Archaeologist on cultural resource inventories, and managing field-generated data including site forms, GIS files, photos, and artifact analysis forms. The individual will also participate as a secondary author of inventory reports and assist with developing resource management recommendations. Specific tasks include cultural monitoring, completing field surveys, documenting archaeological and historic built environment resources, and preparing technical reports. Strong communication skills are required, and GIS experience is preferred. All environmental staff at Wilson & Company work collaboratively with engineering professionals across various disciplines and build relationships with clients locally and in other states where the company operates. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in archaeology, anthropology, or related discipline
  • Participation in an archaeological field school or 1.5 months of full-time archaeological survey and excavation
  • Working knowledge of National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Section 106 regulations, and state cultural resource statutes
  • Experience with GPS data collection technologies (Trimble or Juniper GNSS Receivers, ESRI Field Maps)
  • Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, environmental, and cultural resources professionals
  • Task management skills with ability to complete work on schedule and within budget
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe applications

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Arts (MA) or Master of Science (MS) degree in archaeology or anthropology or related discipline
  • 1+ years of directly relevant field experience, survey and/or excavation in the Great Basin or adjacent areas
  • 3+ years of progressively responsible task management and report writing experience
  • Permitted or permittable to conduct survey under state and federal permits in the state (6+ months of experience in relevant culture areas)
  • Experience working on various jurisdictions, including Navajo Nation, BLM, USFS and State Land
  • Experience documenting the historic built environment and/or historic architecture experience
  • Cultural resources experience in other southwest states
  • Preparation of NEPA documents at the national, state, local and tribal level, including desktop data collection, analysis, and technical writing
  • Experience coordinating and consulting with regulatory agencies
  • Experience with ESRI software in collecting data and creating maps

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Project Archaeologist to conduct cultural resource inventories for a variety of our federal, state, local, and tribal clients
  • Assist in managing field generated data including site forms, GIS files, photos, and artifact analysis forms
  • Participate as a secondary author of inventory reports
  • Assist with the development of resource management recommendations
  • Conduct cultural monitoring
  • Complete field surveys
  • Document archaeological and historic built environment resources
  • Prepare technical reports
  • Provide technical archaeological and cultural resources expertise to support projects in the southwest region
  • Ability to mobilize rapidly for field assignments
  • Conduct archaeological and cultural resources field surveys, includes travel throughout the Intermountain West and Southwest and potential out-of-state travel to support a national environmental program
  • Collaborate on the preparation of technical reports and site forms
  • Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with engineering professionals in a variety of disciplines across Wilson & Company to meet project goals, and with other key staff to build client relationships in states where Wilson & Company is conducting environmental project work
