Engineering Consulting Services (ECS) is seeking an experienced Environmental Principal to join our Florida Environmental Assessment & Remediation Team in Miami, FL. This senior leadership role ensures that project quality, performance, and client satisfaction consistently meet ECS’s high standards. The Environmental Principal serves as a trusted technical advisor, final reviewer, and mentor—delegating effectively to senior staff while stepping in strategically where expertise and leadership are most valuable. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Minimum 12 years of related experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in environmental assessment, remediation, and regulatory compliance
  • Extensive knowledge of permitting processes, environmental regulations, and environmental test methods
  • Excellent ability to manage and develop new clients
  • Demonstrate established technical excellence, strong leadership skills, and an dedication to continuous professional development for their benefit and for the advancement of their field
  • Principals provide leadership both through their example and through mentorship of staff

Responsibilities

  • Actively mentor junior and mid-level staff, providing guidance and training to support their professional growth and technical development.
  • Provide mentorship and oversight to Associate Principals as assigned.
  • Support senior staff with staffing decisions, workload balancing, and team development initiatives.
  • Serve as Principal for environmental assessment and remediation projects, ensuring all work meets ECS QA/QC and Principal Review policies.
  • Oversee project setup, implementation, and closeout processes, verifying alignment with ECS procedures and client expectations.
  • Review and approve proposals, scopes of work, change orders, and final deliverables.
  • Attend project meetings to resolve technical and administrative issues, ensuring timely and effective project execution.
  • Maintain and expand client relationships through responsive communication, technical excellence, and proactive problem-solving.
  • Participate in marketing efforts, including client outreach and maintaining a strong client database.
  • Host or attend client meetings to discuss project findings and recommendations, addressing follow-up questions and next steps.
  • Support collections efforts and review change orders and invoices to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Apply extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations to guide project decisions and ensure compliance.
  • Oversee environmental site assessments, soil and groundwater investigations, and remediation projects.
  • Manage remediation system design, installation, and O&M; ensure proper permitting and adherence to safety and performance requirements.
  • Supervise and review underground storage tank (UST) assessments, ensuring work is performed by qualified, licensed professionals and meets ECS safety standards.
  • Develop and review site work plans that define sampling/boring locations, equipment, subcontractors, and safety requirements.
  • Ensure deliverables align with approved scopes of work; communicate and justify any necessary deviations.
  • Coordinate with other ECS service lines to ensure multidisciplinary collaboration and compliance with regulatory and constructability considerations.
  • Review project budgets and schedules, identifying opportunities for process improvement and efficiency.
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously, balancing technical leadership with strategic oversight.
